I’m not sure if you know this, but one of the largest donor to St. Thomas Public Library fundraising is the Friends of St. Thomas Public Library. (They’ve donated over $100,000 since 2005, and have been a huge help to the library since 1994!) This wonderful group of volunteers do a wide variety of money raising activities through library programs, raffles, and (of course) book sales.
In the past few weeks alone, the Friends of St. Thomas Public Library have had book sales at the Seniors’ Picnic in the Park at Pinafore Park, the Horton Farmers’ Market in Downtown St. Thomas, and their Library Friends Shop in the Elgin Mall. The Friends rely on book donations from the public for these fundraising book sales and the community has been very generous for donations of adult fiction and non-fiction! There is, however, one area where donations are a little scant – books for children and teens.
Every Saturday, St. Thomas Public Library staff, on behalf of the Friends, set up an area at the Horton Farmers’ Market where “nearly new” books are sold at unbelievably incredible prices. While the sales at the Market just keep breaking records, there is only one genre of books that continues to sell out every week – books for children and youth. The Friends of St. Thomas Public Library simply can’t keep up with the demand for children’s books!
They need your help! If you have any children’s books at home that aren’t getting the love and the attention that they once did, please consider donating them to Friends of St. Thomas Public Library. Through the book sales, the Friends will ensure that the books you and your children once loved will find a new home and delight new young readers. Many children’s books are purchased by local teachers for classrooms, so potentially dozens of children will be able to benefit from your donation!
Any book and magazine donations (for children, teens, and adults) can be dropped of at the Library Friends Shop or the Adult Department of St. Thomas Public Library in the Elgin Mall. Thank you for your support and thank you to Friends of St. Thomas Public Library!
