Trivia Night 2011 – Bigger and Better than Ever

Trivia Night as St. Thomas Public LibraryAre you one of those people who can’t for the life of them forget arcane and random bits of information? Do you like a little healthy competition and winning amazing prizes? Or perhaps you’re more the kind of person who likes listening to musical performances, viewing art displays, and an evening with friends enjoying plenty of food and drink. Whether you’re either/or or a healthy mixture of both, St. Thomas Public Library has the perfect evening for you!

Join us for our 6th Annual Trivia Night on Saturday, October 15, 2011. (Social Hour begins at 7 pm and the trivia begins at 8 pm)

The tickets are $20 per person, $120 for a team of six. You will definitely get your money’s worth! Not only will it be an evening out with friends with tasty hors d’oeuvres and desserts, but you’ll see a unique stained glass art display, enough door prizes for each team to win at least one (statistically speaking,) and you get to enjoy live entertainment with Dave Hoy and his toe-tapping piano. Once there, you’ll have the opportunity to partake in a 50/50 draw and enjoy a cash bar with wine from Quai du Vin and a selection of beer an unbelievable price.

Usually we hold Trivia Night in the Carnegie Room of the library, but since the building at 153 Curtis Street is closed due to Library Revitalization, we’ve had to find a different venue. The Holy Angels Church at 502 Talbot Street welcomed us with open arms! Because we have a larger venue, we’re able to double the number of teams that can participate, which is great news since Trivia Night is always a sold out event! But with twice as many teams participating, we couldn’t just offer one grand prize; that would hardly be fair! Through the generosity of the St. Thomas Downtown Development Board and The Beanery, we’re able to offer a first place grand prize, a second place price, and a third place prize.

  • Grand Prize for First Place: $300 in Downtown Development Dollars (6 x $50)
  • Second Place Prize: $210 gift certificate to The Beanery (so you and your team can enjoy another fun-filled evening together! Gift certificate works out to $35 per person, and should be able to cover two courses and a beverage.)
  • Third Place Prize: $180 in Downtown Development Dollars (6 x $30)

Basically, if you win either first, second, or third place, you’ve won your money back, and then some! Pretty awesome if you ask me. (But I might be a little biased…)

For those who have participated before, Trivia Night will run its standard format: 10 rounds of 10 questions from 10 different categories. Categories are:

  1. Bygone Years (history)
  2. The Written Word (literature)
  3. Note by Note (music)
  4. The Silver Screens (TV and movies)
  5. The World Around Us (geography)
  6. Jingles and Logos (marketing)
  7. Havin’ a Ball (sports)
  8. Geeks and Nerds (science and technology)
  9. Gastronomy (food and drink)
  10. Six of One, Half Dozen of the Other (all about 6 – in honour of our 6th Annual Trivia Night)

It doesn’t even matter if you’re “no good” at trivia – the answers are multiple choice! The questions (and 4 possible answers) appear on the screen, are read by our MC, and left up for 25 seconds. At the end of each round, the answers are given to our judge, and the cumulative scores are posted.

But wait… there’s more! (I told you that the evening is bigger and better than ever.) As much as I love our library, we’ve had to hold Trivia Night on multiple floors of the library to accommodate all of the fun and games. This year, the bigger venue means that everything is on just one floor – food, bar, trivia, washrooms, everything! If you want to grab another plate of snacks (or a drink) between rounds, you can!

We’d like to thank our sponsors and let you know what to expect for door prizes:
