December 2012 Activities – C&T Dept

The Children and Teens’ Department is bustling! Here’s what’s happening in :

Tween SceneTween Scene

Two exciting Tween Scenes are coming up for kids in grades 4 to 7. Join us for Holiday Hoopla on Tuesday, December 18th at 4:00 pm and create hand-made holiday art to decorate for the season. On Tuesday, January 22nd join us for Recycled Holiday Card Boxes and learn how to recycle leftover holiday cards into useful boxes. Register for Tween Scene at the information desk in the Children’s and Teens’ Department.

Chess Club

The last day for Chess Club in 2012 is Saturday, December 8th. Chess Club will resume on Saturday, January 5th at the usual time of 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the Ingram Activity Centre, lower level. All ages are welcome, no registration is required. Bring your own chess set if you have one!

Lego ClubLego Club

Lego Club will take place on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 and Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the Ingram Activity Centre, lower level. This drop in program is open to children five years or older.

Pokemon Club

Pokemon Club will take place Monday afternoons from 4:00-5:00 pm on December 3rd, 10th, and 17th in the Ingram Activity Centre, lower level. After a break for the holidays, Pokemon Club will resume on Monday, January 7th, 2013. Drop in with your pokemon cards, all ages welcome.

 

Family Movie Nights

Upcoming family movie nights will feature Katy Perry: Part of Me on Friday, December 14th, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., Carnegie Room, lower level. It’s free of charge; just bring your family and enjoy! (Movie is rated PG for some suggestive content, language, thematic elements and brief smoking.)


Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days on Friday, January 18th, 2013. The movie starts at 6:00 pm in the Carnegie Room, lower level. It’s free of charge; just bring your family and enjoy! (Movie is rated PG for some rude humour.)

French Storytime

French StorytimeA qualified French teacher will read stories and hold activities for children to enjoy, all in French. French storytime is open to children between the ages of 4 and 8 years old, and will be held Saturdays at 10:00 am, January 26th to March 2nd, 2013. Registration starts Monday, December 17th and space is limited. This program is a join initiative between CPF (Canadians for French – Ontario) Thames Valley Chapter and St. Thomas Public Library.

Winter Storytimes

Winter storytimes are filling up fast! Register or add your name to the waiting list at the information desk in the Children and Teens’ Department. Storytimes are held in the Ingram Activity Centre, lower level:

  • Books and Bounces (birth to 2 years): Tuesdays from January 23 to February 27, 2013 at 10:00 am
  • Tales for Twos (2 years): Wednesdays from January 23 to February 27, 2013 at 10:00 am
  • Preschool Storytime (3 to 5 years): Thursdays from January 24 to February 28, 2013 at 10:00 am

We also have board games available in the Ingram Activity Centre for the public to use anytime!
