Stuffie Sleepover – July 2013

This isn’t your typical “Teddy bear picnic.” It isn’t even your traditional slumber party. This is the one-of-a-kind St. Thomas Public Library program!

Stuffie Sleepover

@ St. Thomas Public Library

Ingram Activity Centre, lower level

7:00 p.m.

Have you ever wondered what happens when the library closes and the lights go out? Your kids can bring their favourite stuffed animal with them to a special story time tonight at 7:00 p.m. After the story, children say “Goodbye” to their stuffies, and leave them in the library’s care for the evening. Library staff make sure the stuffies are safe and sound before turning on the security cameras, turn off the lights, and lock the doors.

The stuffed animals are then free to roam the library on a “Hold no bars” adventure! We don’t tell the stuffies that there are cameras all over the library to secretly record their shinanigans. Last year, we had stuffies climbing the vending machines, stuffies using the photocopier in ways  a library photocopier was never used before, stuffies toasting marshmallows over the fireplace, and stuffies climbing the old local history card catalogue! (To view the photos from last year, visit the library’s Flickr photostream.)

Time for a snack!

The next morning after 10 a.m., come back to the library to pick up your child’s stuffie. Staff will have put together a package for your child that includes a personalized letter, a photo of their stuffie in action, and a media card directing you to the online album of all of the security images taken.

No registration is required for this free program. Just show up and have fun! This program is available for children of any age – so long as they don’t mind leaving their stuffie at the library overnight.

Can’t make it to tonight’s Stuffie Sleepover? Don’t worry! Another Stuffie Sleepover will be taking place on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
