At St. Thomas Public Library, we try to offer programs that are wanted and relevant to our community. We frequently get requests and suggestions from customers for programs and events, and we do what we can to make them happen.
This is one of those times.
Over the past year or so, we’ve heard one idea pop up a couple of times: an evening book club for adults. St. Thomas Public Library has been running a well-attended daytime book club for many years now. (The first meeting to our new season is Tuesday, September 3 and you can read all about it!) But with only morning meetings, people who work during the day can never attend, leaving a gap in service to our customers.
With the new book club season beginning soon, we thought the time was right to put out the “Official” feelers. We looked at our statistics for which genre circulates really well in this library, and decided that our mystery collection is popular enough to warrant an in-dept look and group discussions. Our behind-the-scenes people have put out the call to all St. Thomas Public Library customers to see if there is enough interest to actually run an ongoing evening adult book club that focused on mysteries.
We’re taking names of those who may be interested in an Evening Adult Book Club that will meet once per month. If you would like to join an Adult Mysteries Book Club, please email email@example.com or call 519-631-6050. We’ll take your information and give you the date and time for the first meeting when enough people have signed up.
There is no obligation – the first meeting (we’re aiming for early October) is really more of a planning session. We’ll use group consensus to decide what kind of mysteries we’ll read and discuss, meeting format, who chooses the books or authors, etc. St. Thomas Public Library staff will chose the first book and announce it at the planning meeting. After that, it’s up to the group to decide what comes next!
So if you’re mad about mysteries, or can’t wait to unleash your inner sleuth and let us know! Contact the library and put your name on the list for the planning meeting for the first ever Evening Adult Book Club! Call the library at 519-631-6050, email Ruth Crocker, our Marketing Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or go to the Adult Information Desk on the main level of St. Thomas Public Library to sign up in person.
Hope to see you there, and in the meantime – happy reading!
